Event Description

The Life Goes On Foundation's annual Ben Nevis fundraising climb is almost upon us again.

Ben Nevis is Britain’s highest mountain at 4409ft/ 1344m which takes approx. 8hrs to complete.

If you're ready for a challenge, and have been cleared by your stoma nurse or G.P to go ahead with physical activity then why not attempt the 8 mile hike up the Ben Nevis tourist route which starts from the Glen Nevis Visitors Centre.

If you are interested in joining/sponsoring the climb, then please contact the foundation as soon as possible.
You can download your sponsor sheets.docx here.

In order to climb the Ben you need to be prepared to carry some personal essential equipment. The weather can change very quickly, you can be hiking in the sunshine one minute then suddenly be in a cloud storm with temperatures below freezing.

Things to remember in your rucksack:

A map of area or explorer map, first aid kit, torch, whistle, change of clothing, food and plenty of drinks, hat, gloves, compass and walking poles
Good walking/hiking boots is a must, take waterproof clothing and be sure to drink plenty of fluids.

There will be a guide leading the climb also, the world famouse Ben Nevis Charity climber Kenny Cambell who has done over 50 climbs to date, is in the Guiness Book Of Records for carrying a church organ to the summit and will make sure that everyone gets off the mountain safely.

If your fitness and health is poor, then it may not be advisable to consider tackling the Ben. The mountain rescue services are for emergencies and not a call out service for people who want a free helicopter ride. lol.

Free accomodation will be provided on Sat 18th July, the night before the climb at the Glen Nevis Youth Hostel which is located at the foot of the mountain and a light breakfast will also be provided free on the morning of the climb.

A portable toilet tent will be taken on the climb to be set up for ostomates requiring to maintain their pouches during the climb.

Details and a route map. on how to get to Fort William from the south.
